farm life

another summer settles in the northeast as i settle in with donna at magical moon farm for our second summer of farming, healing, and music. this year is so different than last, with a waning pandemic in the US and a shifting sense of life in our global community. we see it in the many people who visit the farm for peace, love and music. there’s an uncertain hope and a hint of unease and we see people come here searching for something to hold on to, and so many remark that they find it here at the farm.

this year our focus has been on the music program and the new performance space inside the barn which donna crafted with her usual creative prowess. the music space, like the grounds and the farm stand, reflects a hippie sensibility with patterned stage curtains, umbrella lighting, and antique seating for 65. if you can imagine what keith richards’ treehouse would look like, that’s the barn. we’ve had three indoor shows so far and everyone has remarked on the incredible vibe and fantastic sound. it’s another gem. check out our amazing lineup here.

and of course the van gogh brothers are adding their fair share to the mix with lawn concert performances on Moonstock, july 24th; a Day of Remembrance for AJ, August 7th; and with Billy & the Goats on September 18th. All shows start at 1:00 PM and the farm is located at 575 Summer St in Marshfield, MA.

in other van gogh brothers news, our recording sessions continue this summer for our sweet 16 album (title TBD) which features paul and i on acoustic guitars- a radical departure for us and a change that’s brought a breath of fresh air to our sound and spirit. watch for previews from this gem in progress. and before i forget (again), there is another new album coming: “Ghost.” we will have hard copy CD’s available on august 7th at the farm, but we are holding online distribution until later this summer.

on september 11th, the van gogh brothers resume our lifetime residency at vincent’s worcester, every second saturday of the month for the rest of our lives. there is only one vincent’s, and only one van gogh (brothers). the combination is electric. don’t miss this amazing venue during our fall and winter residency.

i can’t tell you how rewarding it is to pitch in to the greater boston music scene again with donna at the farm. the barn space reminds me of my last run at showcase production for 7 years at the original house of blues in harvard square. the vibe is so similar, and the space feels the same- original, authentic, warm and cool. i have a few friends on the south shore near the farm in cohasset and hingham who have helped us here and welcomed me to the area- frank neer and chuck mcdermott among them- and it’s great to feel welcomed to another community. i have been very lucky in this over the last 15 years in la, malibu and now on boston’s south shore.

so that’s it for now. i look forward to seeing my east coast friends in the months ahead, and later this fall i’ll return to la and malibu and catch up with all you west-coasters again. until then,

love,

jc
