the muse of malibu
i caught a tailwind coming back from the west coast that carried me well into october, past our first vincent’s date, the early radio and press promotion, the “Let You Love Again” video release and now towards our november 23rd record release show for “Love Letters.” the beautiful energy that i draw from my spirit home on zuma is part of my dna now, and i get to share it wherever i go.
the band actually rehearsed before vincent’s and we realized that this rehearsal was our first full band rehearsal in over 18 years… how about that? crazy, right? and hilarious. when we got to vincent’s 2 nights later, we were overwhelmed with love and support from our central massachusetts friends and followers and it was a fiery night for the band, especially for lead guitarist and co-conspirator, paul. as i mentioned at vincent’s, i’ve now been with paul longer than any of my wives. amazing!
while we promote “Love Letters,” we are preparing tracks for the next album which we will begin recording in december. we’ve started including some of these songs in our live shows and they are going over well. “Ghost” and “Down to the River” are the first to go. we’ve got about 7 in mind so far and my new living space/writing studio has been giving me a song a day when i’m not traveling, so it won’t be long before we have all the material we’ll need. (we might have it already!) this level of creative liberty and productivity is a great blessing and a long time coming.
i’ll be in new york quite a bit this fall. i always enjoy the energy of the big apple and the history of the place- from 1650 broadway to the lower east side and greenwich village- all alive with musical heritage and bohemian origins. i’ll hit new orleans again after our vincent’s show and hopefully get back to nashville somewhere in between all of this. a return to la is always on my mind and i’ll possibly hit it again mid-december, along with a return to outer cape cod in the glorious off-season. i can’t stay in one place too long. staying in one place for too long just isn’t in my blood.
i hope you are well and getting a tailwind of your own through these beautiful autumn months. it’s such an inspiring time of year, especially as we approach 2020— a very cool number, right? i am jazzed.
ok, that’s enough out of me. i hope to see some of you in person in the weeks ahead. in the meantime, Happy Halloween!
