love for love letters
Love Letters went live on all the digital stores (apple music, amazon, spotify, etc) on November 22 with a jam-packed record release show at vincent’s worcester on saturday the 23rd! the house was rocking and vincent himself came out to celebrate with us for a well-deserved blowout after the completion of the recording process that spanned the US from malibu to boston over nearly 3-years.
and what a time it’s been. the beautiful new england autumns are such a reflective time and i’ve been looking back over our latest project and where its taken us— right back to where we first started to hone our sound as a group from the very beginnings in 1992. our core east coast following is from central massachusetts and worcester, so why would we focus anywhere else as we re-start regular live performances in new england?
vincent hemmeter, of vincent’s, is a long-time supporter of ours, and the first impresario to offer us a venue where we could develop our sound. we worked as the house band at vincent’s in ‘05 and ‘06 and it was here the van gogh brothers band was born— naturally— as paul and i realized 14 years later, “vincent” + “van gogh.” we might be a little slow on the uptake, but we definitely got there and we start a new monthly residency in january, each second saturday of every month through may.
as an independent original music band in our 25th year, the privilege of being able to perform regularly and continue to grow our audience is humbling. our love of our craft and of each other deepens with each year that goes by. zeroing in on our core audience strengthens our music and our ability to continue creating. we are deeply grateful.
we will focus our energies on Love Letters as we move through 2020, but in the background we begin recording new tracks in december for a new album that will probably see a release in 2021. the vitality of the van gogh brothers depends on new songs and boy, have we got ‘em! after struggling to find a place to create for several years, i got lucky in 2019 with a mid-1800’s carriage house outside of boston where i’ve been living and working since june— with a song a day for almost every day i’ve been in town.
keep your eye on our site for late year news. in the meantime, happy holidays to all. we look forward to seeing our east coast friends again on january 11th at vincent’s!
love,
jc
